I’m Vanessa and I’m so happy to have you here in my modern homemaking world 🙂
Modern Homemakers Society is my passion project for rediscovering the art of homemaking. In today’s career-driven world, many of us have put homemaking on the back burner because we’re just too busy. So after years of working 50+ hours, ordering take-out every day, and spending way too much money on buying things I already had because I couldn’t find what I did have, I decided to make a major lifestyle change.
I hope you’ll join me on my journey to rediscovering the art of homemaking, whether you’re a stay-at-home mom, a working mom, or not a mom at all, if you’ve been looking for a way to get your home and life in order again, you’re not alone my friend.
Let’s get organized together 😉
A Little About Me
I’m 34-years-old and love that I get to call Oklahoma, home. We have four beautiful little girls and one more (hopefully a boy) on the way.
We’ve been blessed with a beautiful home where our kids love to run around in our massive backyard and Mama loves being able to lock the door when I want them to stay out there just a little while longer! (I’m not the only one who does this, right?)
I am absolutely in love with the scenery here and equally in love with photographing it during our evening walks.
My husband and I watch The Office almost every single day (I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve re-watched the entire series). I also love torturing him with my obsession of Twilight and for whatever reason, rainy days are my absolute favorite time to watch the movies. I’m pretty sure my husband has grown to hate rainy days and probably rolls his eyes at the slightest sign of a single droplet. 😁
I’m a huge lover of anything vintage, especially from the 1920’s-1960’s, and you will find too many vintage mason jars around my house to count. I’ve always been obsessed with black and white movies and some of my favorite old shows are I Love Lucy, Leave It to Beaver, The Donna Reed Show, and the Andy Griffith Show.
I can spend hours in a bookstore (especially an old one) and I absolutely love going to musicals, Wicked especially. I spent years praying for the man I’m married to now and I wake up every morning thanking God for him.
The Man of My Dreams
My husband’s name is Drew and he is absolutely the best husband and father in the world 🙂 I won’t go into everything right now but here are a few fun facts:
- He served in the Army for 10 years.
- He loves spoiling all of his girls (but secretly dying for a boy!)
- My father-in-law married us (no one else I would have rather had perform the ceremony).
- He’s the perfect balance to me and can calm me down like no other.
- He’s the most loving man I’ve ever met.
- He’s a total Star Wars nerd.
Why I Started the Blog
As I mentioned before, I’ve always had a love for all things vintage. As I left the corporate world and became a stay-at-home Mom, I realized very quickly I had no idea what I was doing. I was frustrated, overwhelmed, and just felt like a failure as a wife and a mother. So I started researching everything I could about the classic homemaker and I came to two conclusions:
- I was completely inspired by women like Donna Reed and June Cleaver and thought I could emulate their every homemaking move.
- About two hours into the day, I knew I would never be Donna Reed or June Cleaver!
I did, however, have many takeaways about how I could live a vintage housewife inspired life in a very modern world. After many years of trial-and-error, I found a really great balance and can honestly say I’m extremely happy with my homemaking/home management progress.
This blog is a collection of articles all about what I’ve learned along the way.
